Subject	Do different tranny years differ ?

Message	My 90 NA manual tranny is grinding a bit in 3rd if I slam it, and 4th if its not going directly in from 2nd or 3rd. Mechanic says its the synchros ? Says rebuilding it would be a bitch, and a used tranny is $250-300. I've heard the NA tranny is stronger than the TT. Doesn't make sense to me but okay. He says to get a 94-96 don't give the 3rd gear problem. Any confirmation on that? Any difference in a 91 tranny and a 94?
